A violent confrontation unfolded on Sunday night at the entrance of the Binyamin Brigade headquarters as dozens of Israeli civilians gathered in protest, leading to escalations against the security forces present at the scene.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), along with the Israel Police and Border Police, were deployed to disperse the gathering. However, tensions quickly escalated. According to the IDF, some civilians resorted to attacking security personnel with pepper spray, throwing stones, and vandalizing military vehicles. Disturbingly, there were even attempts to run over soldiers, including the battalion commander.
During the chaotic scenes, one Israeli civilian sustained injuries and was evacuated for medical treatment. The circumstances surrounding the injury are currently under investigation.
Overnight, IDF spokesperson confirmed that six Israeli civilians were arrested on suspicion of participating in violent confrontations. These individuals were found inside a closed military zone near the village of Malak, within the Binyamin Brigade area. As security forces approached to enforce the closure, the civilians reportedly launched physical and verbal assaults, throwing stones and damaging military vehicles.
Both the IDF and Israel Police issued strong condemnations against the violence, emphasizing that attacks on security forces will not be tolerated. In a joint statement, they said, “The IDF and Israel Police condemn any act of violence against security forces and will act decisively against any attempt to harm security personnel fulfilling their duty to protect the safety of Israeli civilians."
Despite the turmoil, the IDF and Israel Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order while continuing their efforts to protect civilians and prevent illegal activities in the region.
The incident highlights escalating tensions within certain sections of the Israeli civilian population and the growing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining order within sensitive areas.
