US President Donald Trump said Iran’s nuclear programme had been “obliterated like nobody’s ever seen before" by Israeli and US strikes earlier this month, and warned that America would strike without question again if Tehran tries to create nuclear weapons.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, “They were trying to seal up the entrance to where the bomb would most likely go in, and they did that. The bomb went through it like it was butter, like it was absolute butter."
The US military launched massive strikes at three Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz on June 22 as part of Operation Midnight Hammer. Fordow was considered Iran’s most secretive and heavily protected site, buried in the mountains and supposedly out of reach of Israeli weapons.
However, at least seven B-2 bombers were deployed to strike the facility using GBU-57A “bunker-buster" bombs, which Trump says reduced Fordow to “just thousands of tonnes of rock. The whole place was just destroyed."
Trump also said that more countries are ready to join the Abraham Accords to normalise relations with Israel, saying, “We have some really great countries in there right now and I think we’re going to start loading them up because Iran was the primary problem."
Trump Warns Of Future Strikes On Iran
The US President also said he was open to conducting additional strikes against Iran, should Tehran pick up its nuclear programme again to a level that is concerning to the US.
When asked about the prospect of future strikes, Trump said, “Sure. Without question, absolutely."
Trump has expressed frustration with preliminary intelligence assessments that have cast doubt on the effectiveness of the American strikes on Iran. He said those who leaked the information to reporters “should be prosecuted" and insisted that the Iranians did not move highly enriched uranium out of the Fordow site.
