A complete shutdown of the internet continues in Iran straight for the fifth day. Officials from the Islamic republic have confirmed to Iranian media that the crackdown on protestors have killed at least 12,000 people and possibly as many as 20,000. The internet blackout has made independent verification of the actual death toll nearly impossible.

At least 12 videos were going around on social media showing massive numbers of dead bodies at morgues across the country, posted by an Iranian who claims to have recently left Iran.

India Today’s Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) team verified the video using visual clues and identified the location as the Kahrizak Forensic Medicine Center in Tehran, Iran. A rough count by India Today of the black body bags visible in the footage indicates at least 180 bodies at one site. Another video shows a screen at a morgue displaying a count of 250 bodies.

The set of videos were filmed at a mortuary near the town of Kahrizak, the Forensic Diagnostic and Laboratory Center of Tehran Province, which is around 20 km from Tehran. Visual match of the layout of the exterior of the building and the dimensions and structure of a warehouse and another building nearby to satellite images to verify the location.

Shots from outside these buildings show many body bags on trolleys, with hundreds of people gathered around them. One video shows the warehouse appearing full of both bags and people looking over them.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he was seeking "accurate numbers" on what he called significant killings in Iran and would "act accordingly," but declined to say what form any U.S. response could take.

Dropping a significant hint on Truth Social Trump urged Iranians to continue protesting and assuring “HELP IS ON ITS WAY." Earlier he agreed to negotiations with the Iran authority but in the post on Truth Social on Wednesday, he mentioned that he cancelled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the "senseless killing" of protesters stopped.

The US-based rights group HRANA said it had confirmed 2,003 deaths, 1,850 of them protesters. It also reported 16,784 detentions, a sharp jump from the figure it released on Monday.
