Qatar on Monday successfully intercepted an Iranian missile attack targeting the Al Udeid Air Base and termed the retaliatory strikes as “a flagrant violation of sovereignty".

Qatari Ministry of Defence said that its air defence systems intercepted the missiles, averting any casualties or injuries.

“Thanks to God and the vigilance of the armed forces personnel and the precautionary measures taken, the incident resulted in no deaths or injuries. The Ministry reaffirmed that the airspace and territory of the State of Qatar are safe and that the Qatari Armed Forces are always fully prepared to deal with any threat. The Ministry of Defense also advises citizens and residents to follow official sources for directives and the latest developments," the Ministry said in a statement.

In a major retaliatory move, Iran fired missiles at US military bases in Qatar and Iran.

Iran fired six missiles at US troops in Qatar, Axios reported, citing an Israeli official. Qatar said all were intercepted with no casualties, but Iran’s Mehr News claimed three hit the Al-Udeid Air Base. Explosions were heard in Doha, making it Iran’s biggest attack on a base in Qatar so far.

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported Iran was preparing to strike US forces in the region.

A White House official said the situation is being closely monitored, with Defense Secretary Dan Caine and other top officials tracking the strikes from the situation room. The US is also watching for missile threats to its bases in Iraq.
