Qatar's Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, secured Tehran's agreement to a US-proposed ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Iran, a senior official involved in the negotiations said, as reported by Reuters.

The move came after US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance reached out to Qatar's Emir, urging him to help de-escalate rising tensions in the Middle East following Iranian missile strikes on a US air base in Qatar on Monday.

"Trump told the Emir that Israel had agreed to the ceasefire and asked for Qatari help to persuade Iran to also agree," the official revealed.

Shortly after, Qatar's prime minister spoke with Iranian officials, successfully brokering a commitment from Tehran to the ceasefire terms.

A senior Iranian official also acknowledged that Tehran accepted the ceasefire mediated by Qatar.

Earlier, Trump announced on Truth Social that a "complete and total ceasefire" would take effect within hours, after both nations wrap up ongoing military operations.

"On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on having the stamina, courage, and intelligence to end what should be called 'THE 12 DAY WAR,'" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
