WhatsApp web still does not let you make voice or video calls.

WhatsApp calling feature on the web has been long awaited and we have been seeing news about its availability for a few years. Once again, the messaging app seems to be testing the ability to make voice or video calls on WhatsApp web, at least with the new beta version in the circuit.

The new update has been spotted with the WhatsApp web beta that runs on browsers like Chrome, Safari and Firefox among others. WhatsApp users have relied on the desktop app for Windows and macOS for calling support, but soon that is going to change.

WhatsApp Web Beta Calling Update: What We Know

WhatsApp web beta calling feature has been mentioned by reliable tipster WaBetaInfo this week. The post says the web client of WhatsApp will see a new-look calling button right next to the search and three-dot menu.

As you can see here, the video and call icons are visible on the WhatsApp web interface which is agnostic of any platform as it runs on the web browser, negating the need to download a separate app.

Support for voice and video calls on WhatsApp web has been a much-awaited feature from users around the world. The company would have more ammunition to rival Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet with the calling support.

More importantly, the video and voice calling on WhatsApp is likely to work just with your phone number which is how billions use the messaging app on their phones.

We are hoping this is not another false dawn for the popular WhatsApp feature and the company finally manages to release the public version for everyone in the next few months.

WhatsApp recently announced an advanced chat privacy feature that looks to further secure your chats and media files. The messaging app will now stop people from auto-downloading media files or copy the chats to use them for AI features on the messaging app. The person trying to copy the file will see a pop-up box which tells them the contact has enabled advanced chat privacy for the messages on the account.
