West Coast Paper Mills Q1 profit more than doubles as cable business surges

West Coast Paper Mills Ltd. reported a 145.4% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹133.5 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, helped by improved operational efficiency and a sharp increase in profitability at its telecommunications cable business.

The paper and packaging products maker had reported a net profit of ₹54.4 crore in the year-ago quarter.

Consolidated revenue from operations rose 10.1% to ₹1,051.3 crore from ₹954.7 crore a year earlier.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) jumped 84.2% to ₹203.5 crore from ₹110.5 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. EBITDA margin expanded sharply to 19.4% from 11.6%.

Paper and cable businesses

Revenue from the paper and paperboard segment rose to ₹899.1 crore during the quarter from ₹880.7 crore a year earlier. The segment result increased to ₹103 crore from ₹85.3 crore.

The telecommunications cables business recorded a sharper improvement. Revenue more than doubled to ₹152.2 crore from ₹73.9 crore, while the segment result surged to ₹74 crore from ₹0.45 crore in the year-ago quarter.

S.K. Bangur, chairman and managing director of West Coast Paper Mills, attributed the improved performance mainly to better operational efficiency and higher realisations in the paper division, along with an improved product mix in the cable division.

The company said it remains focused on further improving operational efficiency to support sustainable long-term growth.

Andhra Paper operations

Operations at subsidiary Andhra Paper Ltd.'s Kadiyam unit were temporarily suspended from April 27 following what the company described as an illegal strike by a section of contract workers.

Andhra Paper declared a lockout at the unit on May 1 and revoked it on May 29.

Manufacturing operations partially resumed on July 15 following the return of a majority of workers. The Kadiyam unit is currently operating at about 93% of normal capacity, with the company taking steps to restore full operations and normalise production.

Shares of West Coast Paper Mills closed 3.32% higher at ₹616.90 on Wednesday.
