US President Donald Trump on Tuesday struck an optimistic note on efforts to end the Ukraine-Russia war, saying he believes progress is being made and hinting that a diplomatic breakthrough could be near.
“I think we’re doing very well with Ukraine and Russia," Trump said as he spoke to reporters.
“For the first time, I’m saying that, you know, we’re doing. I think we’re gonna maybe have some good news," he said.
Trump described the conflict as a “ridiculous war," claiming that about 25,000 people were being killed each month, down from 31,000 previously.
“Think of it. Young, beautiful kids… kids have parents," he said.
“It doesn’t affect us in one way, but in another way, it’s 25,000 souls."
