The United States temporarily restricted its government personnel from visiting upscale hotels in Karachi following reports of a potential security threat. In a security alert issued on July 31, the US Consulate General in Karachi confirmed, “The US Consulate General Karachi received a report of a threat directed at high-end hotels in Karachi."
In response, the consulate said it had “temporarily limited visits by official US government personnel to these hotels." While the nature of the threat has not been disclosed, the advisory urged caution and outlined precautionary measures for both officials and US citizens residing or travelling in Pakistan. These included avoiding the affected areas, staying away from large gatherings, keeping a low profile and remaining alert in locations frequently visited by tourists or Westerners.
The alert is part of a broader security protocol often invoked by the US Embassy and Consulates in Pakistan in response to credible threats to public venues like hotels, shopping malls, restaurants and tourist attractions.
