The Simpsons' creator, Matt Groening, hinted that the longest-running animated sitcom will continue well beyond its upcoming 37th season. Appearing at San Diego Comic-Con, the 71-year-old cartoonist said, "I really thought 36 was where we were going to stop it. But there's no ending in sight. We're going to keep going until someone dies."
According to The Independent, his comments acknowledged the show's long-standing tradition of making eerily accurate predictions about real-world events.
Groening, known for his satirical humour, joked about how the world might react to the eventual death of US President Donald Trump. “When you-know-who dies, The Simpsons predicts there will be dancing in the streets. Until President Vance bans dancing in the streets.”
The statement drew laughter from the audience, continuing the show’s legacy of politically charged humour.
The cartoonist also took aim at billionaire Elon Musk, quipping, 'The Simpsons predicts Elon Musk will be the first man to land on Mars crash-landing, marooned, yet still hearing the cheering all the way from Earth.'
Groening also commented on America’s political climate, predicting that children will one day free their Republican parents from the cult of MAGA by erasing Fox News from their TV remotes.
At the same event, the show revealed its star-studded Season 37 guest lineup, including Kieran Culkin, Glenn Howerton, Danny Pudi, Adam Pally, and brothers Brendan and Domhnall Gleeson.
Groening’s return follows controversy over the Season 36 finale, which depicted a future where Marge Simpson is deceased. Executive producer Matt Selman later clarified the episode was not canon, stating: “The Simpsons doesn’t even have canon.”
