Multiple explosions were reported overnight in the Iranian city of Saravan, close to the border with Pakistan, after what security sources described as a coordinated airstrike by the United States and Israel. The blasts were heard across the city, particularly around the local airfield and a nearby military installation in the Aspich area, residents and regional reports said.
Saravan lies in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province, a strategically sensitive region that borders both Pakistan and Afghanistan. The province has long been viewed by Iranian authorities as a volatile frontier zone due to militant activity, cross-border smuggling networks and its proximity to major regional trade routes.
According to security sources familiar with the developments, fighter jets involved in the operation are believed to have approached Iranian airspace from the east. Some reports claim that US aircraft may have passed close to Pakistani airspace during the mission before striking the target in Saravan. However, there has been no official confirmation from Islamabad regarding the use of its airspace.
The apparent strike targeted the Saravan airfield and nearby military infrastructure, including a facility in the Aspich area on the outskirts of the city. The extent of the damage and potential casualties remains unclear as Iranian authorities have not yet issued a detailed statement on the incident.
The attack comes amid the widening military confrontation between the United States, Israel and Iran, which escalated sharply in recent days following a series of strikes and retaliatory actions across the region.
This is believed to be the second reported strike by US forces in eastern Iran since the current phase of the conflict began. The first incident reportedly took place last week near the port city of Chabahar, also located in Sistan and Baluchestan province along the Gulf of Oman.
Chabahar holds particular geopolitical importance due to its proximity to the Arabian Sea and its role in regional trade corridors, including projects linked to India and Afghanistan. Any escalation in the region could, therefore, have broader strategic implications, especially for shipping routes and cross-border security.
With tensions continuing to rise, the developments near Saravan underscore how the conflict is increasingly affecting areas close to international borders, raising concerns about potential regional spillover involving neighbouring countries such as Pakistan.
