US President Donald Trump on Monday hinted that the ongoing war with Iran could soon reach its end and stated that the joint US-Israeli military campaign against Tehran is “very complete, pretty much." However, just hours later, he addressed a Republican event, where he contradicted his own statement and took a u-turn saying that the US has not “won enough" yet.
“We’ve already won in many ways, but we haven’t won enough," Trump said while addressing the Republican Members’ Issues Conference.
He also said that the US “will not relent until the enemy is totally and decisively defeated".
US-Israel-Iran War LIVE Updates
Trump’s remark at the Republican event appeared to be a soft deviation from his statement made to the media outlet, CBS News. During the interview, Trump said the US-Israeli war with Iran was “very complete" and “pretty much" over. He added that the American military was “very far" ahead of his initial 4-5 week estimated time frame.
Speaking to CBS News, Trump stated that Tehran has nothing left in a “military sense". “They have no navy, no communications, they’ve got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones."
‘Disappointed’: Trump On Iran’s New Supreme Leader
Trump on Tuesday said he was “disappointed" over Iran’s decision to appoint Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s new supreme leader following the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Responding to a reporter’s question in Washington on whether the new Iranian leader had a target on his back, Trump said, “I don’t want to say that, but I was disappointed to see their choice."
Trump On Iran War
Clarifying the United States action on Iran, Trump responded, saying that Iran was going to “take over the Middle East" if the US and Israel did not strike first.
He further suggested that another reason beind the attack was Iran’s continued nuclear aspirations during limited negotiations between US and Iranian officials.
