The United States has hailed the recently signed 10-year defence partnership with India, calling it a cornerstone for regional stability and deterrence.

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has said the signing of the new 10-year U.S.-India Defence Framework marks a major step forward in bilateral ties.

He described the agreement as a key pillar for regional stability and deterrence. Hegseth said the framework would strengthen coordination between the two countries and improve information sharing on defence matters.

He also highlighted closer cooperation in defence technology and innovation. According to him, the partnership will help both nations respond better to shared security challenges.

Hegseth added that defence relations between the United States and India are now stronger than ever.

“This advances our defense partnership, a cornerstone for regional stability and deterrence. We’re enhancing our coordination, info sharing, and tech cooperation. Our defense ties have never been stronger," reads US Embassy’s post quoting Pete Hegseth on X.

India and the United States signed a 10-year Framework for the US-India Major Defence Partnership on October 31, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur. The agreement was signed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his US counterpart Pete Hegseth.

The framework sets out a shared vision to deepen defence ties between the two countries. It focuses on improving interoperability, expanding joint military exercises, and strengthening information sharing.

The pact also aims to boost defence trade, which has crossed $20 billion, and promote co-production under the Make in India initiative. It supports technology cooperation through the iCET platform and builds on earlier defence frameworks.
