The UAE’s largest refinery, Ruwais Refinery, has become the latest to have been hit by a drone on Tuesday, the latest disruption to energy infrastructure due to the US-Israeli war on Iran.
Reuters quoted a source saying that Abu Dhabi state oil giant Adnoc has shut its Ruwais refinery after a fire broke out at a facility within the complex following a drone strike.
“The Ruwais refinery has halted operations out of precaution," AFP quoted a source saying, adding that there were no injuries reported.

In a post on X, the government’s media office said: “The competent authorities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are dealing with a fire that broke out in one of the facilities within the Ruwais Industrial Complex, resulting from a drone attack, with no injuries recorded so far. The competent authorities have urged the public to obtain information from official sources only, and to avoid circulating rumors or unverified information."
According to Adnoc, its Ruwais facility is “the world’s fourth-largest single-site refinery".
Refineries Hit Amid Iran War
From oil refineries in Saudi Arabia and the UAE to a gas production facility in Qatar and oil depots in Tehran, the region’s energy infrastructure —the economic lifeline of the West Asia— has come under attack amid the US-Israeli war on Iran. Here are the energy facilities hit so far in the conflict.
Saudi Arabia: The Saudi authorities reported attempted strikes on the Aramco-owned Ras Tanura oil refinery on March 2 and March 4. Operations were suspended at the facility.
Qatar: Iran attacked an energy facility in the Ras Laffan Industrial City, which is a major hub for liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Bahrain: Iran struck the Bahrain Petroleum Company’s (Bapco) refinery near Ma’ameer, Bahrain, on March 5. The attack caused a fire at the facility.
Israel: The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran announced that it has hit the oil refinery in Israel’s Haifa, which is the largest in the country. “IRGC hits Haifa refinery in response to Israeli regime’s attack on Tehran refinery," Iran’s Mehr news agency reported the IRGC as saying.
Iran: Israel attacked oil refineries and oil storage facilities in Iran on March 7. These facilities were the Tondgouyan refinery in Shahr Rey, Tehran Province; Shahran refinery in Tehran City; oil storage facilities in Karaj, Alborz province; separate facility in Tehran City; and an oil depot in Tehran’s Kuhak neighbourhood.
