US President Donald Trump said that he is not seeking regime change in Iran, despite a recent social media post suggesting otherwise. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Donald Trump clarified that his priority is regional stability, not political upheaval.

“No, if there was, there was, but no I don’t want it. I’d like to see everything calm down as quickly as possible," Donald Trump said when asked to explain a Truth Social post from the weekend where he floated the idea of regime change.

“Regime change takes chaos, and ideally we don’t want to see so much chaos," he said, adding, “You know, the Iranians are very good traders, very good business people, and they’ve got a lot of oil. They should be fine. They should be able to rebuild and do a good job. They’re never going to have nuclear but other than that, they should do a great job."

The clarification comes just days after Donald Trump ordered US airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, backing Israel. At the time, he wrote on Truth Social, “It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!"

Regime Change In Iran And US’ Earlier Involvement

A regime change in Iran would mean the removal of the Islamic Republic’s current governing structure led by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the potential collapse of the clerical regime that has dominated the country since the 1979 revolution. Such a shift could lead to significant political upheaval, with unknown consequences for both Iran’s domestic stability and regional dynamics.

The last time the United States was involved in regime change in Iran was in 1953, when the CIA orchestrated a coup to overthrow Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh and reinstalled the Shah- a move that fueled deep mistrust between the two nations and contributed to the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
