Recently, Donald Trump posted a two-page document by a 'historian' that compares his influence to some of the most notorious rulers like Hitler and Genghis Khan. However, a new book on Trump has disclosed a startling fact.
It is no secret that Donald Trump is a master of political theatre who thrives on spectacle and grandstanding. It was seen during the recent G7 Summit when he awkwardly told a roomful of global leaders, "I am the boss". On Thursday, hours after signing the interim peace deal with Iran, Trump shared a document by a "presidential historian" that compares his influence to some of the most notorious rulers, like Adolf Hitler, Genghis Khan, Mao, and Stalin. However, a new book on Trump, set to be released next week, has disclosed a startling fact.
While Trump may have shared the document only recently, he had disclosed it to two New York Times journalists during an interview in March. The anecdote has been captured by the two journalists, Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, in their new book 'Regime Change', as per a report in CNN.
THE TRUTH ABOUT TRUMP'S HITLER CLAIM
On Thursday, Trump posted the two-page document on Truth Social. "Presidential Historian Dave King - Sounds good to me!" Trump captioned the post.
In his interview with the NYT journalists, Trump revealed that he received it from the "historian" during an event honouring Hall of Fame golfer Gary Player.
In short, the document outlined that, unlike Trump, other leaders like Hitler and Stalin, "however fearsome" in their day, had no global reach. And in the world of Trump, that document was as good as fact.
Notably, JD Vance, way before he became vice president, had referred to Trump as "America's Hitler" in 2016.
The eccentric US President showed the document when the journalists asked him about the power he wielded in his second term and his place in history.
However, when the journalists tried to find out about Dave King, they were startled to discover that he was not a historian, but Gary Player's longtime caddy and close aide. In fact, several might mistake him for David King, who is a New York Times best-selling author and a Harvard historian.
The Dave King cited by Trump is no historian. In fact, according to a report in the Daily Beast, he is not even a college graduate. The 70-year-old is a businessman who moved from Scotland to settle in South Africa.
Well, in Trumpworld, such exaggerations and distortions of truth are not rare.
King told the journalists that he first shared his assessment with Player and later showed it to Trump over a golf session. The incident has been detailed in the book, according to CNN.
The book, Regime Change, offers a blunt, behind-the-scenes account of the first year of Trump's chaotic second term.
The past year has seen the unpredictable and also unreliable (as Israel has found out) Trump exercise power with few restraints, while unleashing chaos in global markets through his tariffs and engaging in conflicts on his whim.
TRUMP COMPARED TO HITLER, MAO, STALIN
So, what's in the document?
In his assessment, King mentioned that "powerful" people like Alexander, Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun and Hitler were historically characterised by "brutal conquest" and the "fear that they instilled" during their reigns.
King further said that Trump's influence was far greater because of technology and global systems.
"The overwhelming difference between each of the above when compared with Trump is their lack of global reach. Their power was limited to restricted local areas," the document said.
The document also tom-toms on the global economic muscle that Trump can enforce, a reference to his unsparing use of tariffs. In reality, the US Supreme Court has struck down his tariffs.
The book, due to be released next week, also captures Trump's decision to go to war with Iran and his minor lifestyle quirks, like gold decor around the Oval Office. Do you know about Trump's late-night snacking habit? Or his carpeted bathroom floor? These have also been captured in the book.
