Trump says US will keep supplying Patriot missiles to Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump said that the United States will not be footing the bill for the upcoming tranche of weapons being sent to Ukraine, asserting that the financial responsibility now lies with the European Union.

“We are spending ZERO DOLLARS," Trump said in a statement. “The European Union is paying for it. We’re not paying ANYTHING. It’ll be business for us."

The remarks mark a sharp pivot in rhetoric from previous US policy, under which Washington had played a leading role in supplying military and humanitarian aid to Kyiv since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Trump, who has long criticised what he calls “unfair burden-sharing" within NATO and Western alliances, reiterated his belief that the EU should have been paying for such support from the beginning.

“That’s the way it SHOULD’VE BEEN a long time ago," he added, highlighting his longstanding position that European nations should do more to ensure regional security. Speaking on Russia’s relentless attack on Ukraine, Trump said he is “disappointed with Putin".

Trump’s statement has sparked renewed debate over the future of transatlantic defence cooperation, particularly as Ukraine continues to rely heavily on Western military support to counter Russian aggression. The European Union has not issued any response to Trump’s comments.
