Donald Trump said Iran had agreed never to develop a nuclear weapon and denied reports of a US payment to Tehran. The claim came as Washington and Tehran acknowledged a preliminary ceasefire memorandum while saying a final deal is still pending.

Donald Trump said the US' peace deal with Iran is now complete
US President Donald Trump on Monday claimed that Iran has agreed never to develop a nuclear weapon, while dismissing reports that Washington would pay Tehran $300 million as part of a newly signed ceasefire understanding between the two countries.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon! Also, the story that the U.S. is paying Iran 300 million Dollars is Fake News, put out by the Dumocrats!!!"
Trump's remarks came amid reports that the United States and Iran have signed a preliminary memorandum aimed at ending the recent conflict in the Gulf, though the details of the agreement remain unclear and negotiations on a permanent truce are still underway.
Earlier, Trump announced that a preliminary agreement to end the war had been signed by Washington and Tehran. Speaking after arriving in France for the G7 summit, he said the deal would be formally signed in Geneva on Friday, with Vice President JD Vance representing the United States.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also acknowledged the memorandum, describing it as an "important step" toward ending the fighting, while stressing that a lasting ceasefire agreement has yet to be finalised.
Vance said the signed document is only about one-and-a-half pages long and remains a broad framework rather than a detailed accord. According to him, the agreement includes a significant sanctions-relief package for Iran, with further details expected to be released in the coming days.
