The US President is speaking to NATO leaders and the warring presidents, Vladimir Putin of Russia and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a bid to halt the Ukraine war.

US President Donald Trump on Monday said Russia and Ukraine would “immediately" begin talks for a ceasefire, following a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the ongoing war.
“Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War," Trump posted on Truth Social after the call. He said the “tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent".
After his two-hour call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump said he informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the outcome. He also said he briefed several European leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Finnish President Alexander Stubb in a follow-up call. Trump added that the Vatican, “as represented by the Pope," had expressed interest in hosting the negotiations. “Let the process begin!" he declared.
