A right-wing group disrupted the Sikh Nagar Kirtan in Tauranga, New Zealand, performing Haka and holding banners. SGPC in Amritsar expressed concern over repeated incidents.

A right-wing religious group in New Zealand disrupted an annual Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) organised by the Sikh community to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, marking the second such incident in the last four weeks. The right-wing group performed the traditional Haka dance and held banners stating, “This is New Zealand, not India" in an effort to halt the religious event.

The repeated disruptions have drawn strong concern from Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) based in Amritsar.

The latest incident took place on Sunday in Tauranga, a city located about 225 kilometres from Auckland. According to local accounts, the religious procession set off at around 11 am from the Gurdwara Sikh Sangat and was proceeding along Cameron Road towards Tauranga Boys’ College when the disturbance occurred.
