Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan, has accused the country’s government of a “pre-planned political vendetta" against her family and party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Launching the allegations only days after she called off her sit-in protest near Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan is imprisoned, Aleema Khan said the Pakistan government has already decided to arrest her.
“They have decided to put me in jail without any judgment. There is no court order, no trial, and no legal basis," Aleema said, as per top intelligence sources.
According to the sources, she accused the authorities of weaponising state institutions to silence Imran Khan’s family and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). They said the family was being denied due process, even as there are reports of the government’s attempts to silence public dissent amid reports of growing public anger over the treatment meted out to Imran Khan in jail.
Aleema has alleged that this “persecution" extends into the financial realm, calling it “economic strangulation", the sources said. “They have closed my bank accounts without any verdict," she said, adding that her personal finances were targeted.
She has stressed that this action has occurred without notice, judicial direction, or due process, they said. She has further warned that these measures are part of a “broader crackdown aimed at crippling PTI leadership" and preventing the Khans from campaigning or mobilising political support. She added that her potential arrest is being “timed with growing protests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab" as authorities attempt to pre-empt mass mobilisation by detaining key family members.
Her charges come amid heightened public concern regarding Imran Khan’s treatment in Adiala Jail. Intelligence reports suggest the Pakistan government is “acting out of fear" due to “rising anger over Imran Khan’s alleged torture and isolation inside jail".
Aleema has said the regime seeks to “eliminate all public voices questioning Imran Khan’s health", especially after attempts by his sisters to meet him were blocked. This concern culminated in a recent, high-profile political confrontation: a sit-in outside Adiala Jail’s Gorakhpur checkpost.
The sit-in had caused severe disruption on Adiala Jail Road, resulting in a massive traffic snarl that trapped commuters, ambulances, and school vans. The standoff was eventually called off after successful negotiations where police assured Aleema and PTI leaders that meetings with the former PM will be arranged.
