 Sensex, Nifty end off highs amid weakness in metals and energy

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equities capped off the week on a positive note, extending their gains for a third consecutive week — the market's longest winning streak of 2026 so far. The Sensex and Nifty ended the week with modest gains of around 0.3% each, supported by strength in banking, auto, pharma and realty stocks. However, the broader market painted a more cautious picture, with the midcap index declining 1% over the week and ending Thursday's session in the red.

Thursday's trade saw benchmark indices finish higher but well off their intraday highs as selling pressure emerged in metals amid a sharp correction in commodity prices. The Nifty Bank index also surrendered more than 500 points from the day's peak, though it still ended in positive territory for the week.

Auto stocks emerged as standout performers, aided by falling crude oil and metal prices, while IndiGo continued its strong run for a second straight session. Meanwhile, select midcaps such as OFSS, Cholamandalam Investment and Bharat Forge outperformed, even as metal-linked names and railway stocks faced profit-taking.
