Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian markets closed largely in the red, extending losses for the eighth straight session, as the Sensex fell 97 points to 80,268 and the Nifty slipped 24 points to 24,611. Despite the broader weakness, the Nifty Bank index outperformed, rising 175 points to 54,636, led by gains in Punjab Bank and Canara Bank, each up around 3%.
Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Sectoral trends were mixed, with the midcap index declining marginally by 4 points to 56,529, while PSU banks remained the top performers. Hind Copper ended higher for the seventh session in the last eight days, buoyed by rising global copper prices.
Individual stock movements reflected both sectoral catalysts and company-specific news. Man Industries plunged 10% after SEBI barred the firm and its top executives from the securities market. KPIT Technologies also saw sharp selling pressure, falling nearly 9% in the last hour of trade. In contrast, Coforge rose more than 2% following an outperform rating from CLSA, while Ola Electric jumped 5%, snapping a four-day losing streak ahead of auto sales data.
Tata Motors rebounded nearly 2% in the closing hours of trading, tracking updates from Jaguar Land Rover, while Swiggy gained close to 2% after UBS raised its target price to ₹580 per share. Newly listed Anand Rathi shares ended 5% higher, whereas Seshaasai Technologies slipped over 2%. PVR Inox faced pressure, dropping 2% after the US imposed 100% tariffs on foreign films.
Overall, investors remained cautious amid mixed corporate earnings and sectoral headwinds, even as pockets of buying emerged in banks and select technology stocks.
