Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equity benchmarks ended lower for the fifth consecutive session on Thursday, closing at the day’s low as weakness in auto and IT stocks dragged the indices. Selling pressure was broad-based, with all sectoral indices closing in the red except metals and defence.
IT stocks continued their downward trend for the fifth straight day, with TCS slipping to a 52-week low. Auto shares also weighed on the market, with Tata Motors falling 3% after updates on the impact of a cyberattack at its Jaguar Land Rover unit. Realty counters were under pressure, led by Prestige Estates and Godrej Properties.
On the positive side, shipbuilding and defence stocks outperformed after the Union Cabinet cleared schemes for maritime and shipbuilding development. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) gained 2% following the Defence Ministry’s signing of a ₹62,370 crore deal for Tejas Mk-1A fighter jets. Hindustan Copper surged over 6% as copper prices hit a multi-month high. Shipbuilding companies also saw buying interest on policy support. Among other notable movers, Polycab slipped more than 1% after 1.5% equity changed hands in a block deal, with a promoter likely to be the seller.
