Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: 12 out of the Nifty 50 stocks opened higher, the rest were down. Most of the blue chip stocks in the green were from the defence.

Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: India's benchmark indices are off to a volatile start. Sensex is down 25 basis points. Nifty 50 has slipped below 25,600 soon after the opening bell.
"In the global context, India continues to underperform rest of the world," Gautam Shah of Goldilocks Research said, reacting to the volatile start. "It's difficult to believe that Nifty 50 will break out any time soon."
Some of the big gainers include Soma Textiles, Digispice Tech, Sadbhav Engineering, and AurionPro. Eternal has slipped below the 50-day moving average.
Cochin Shipyard is the top gainer on the NSE. Vedanta is seeing a sharp fall, backed by strong trading volumes.
Texmaco Rail is up 9%, TVS Supply Chain is up 6%.
One of the important cues in today's session will be the trade data showing India’s merchandise trade deficit increased to a record $34.68 billion in January, sharply higher than $25.04 billion in December.
In addition to that, India’s unemployment rate also spiked to 5% in January 2026, up from 4.8% in December. In addition to that, today is also the Nifty weekly expiry session, as a result of which one could expect some volatility.
