External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Ghana on Tuesday on the first leg of his three-nation tour of Africa, aimed at exploring ways to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, investment and infrastructure development.

From Ghana, Jaishankar will travel to Cte d'Ivoire and Ethiopia. The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit reflects India's commitment to deepen its partnership with Africa and will further New Delhi's solidarity with the Global South.

After arriving in Accra, Jaishankar said in a post on X, "Delighted to arrive in Accra, Ghana today. Appreciate the warm welcome by FM @S_OkudzetoAblak. Look forward to productive engagements to advance our Comprehensive Partnership."

Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa welcomed Jaishankar and described him as a "great friend of Ghana". He said he was "looking forward to our positive engagements and impactful deals." In another post on X, Ablakwa said, "Dr Jaishankar is here on a 2-day official visit at my invitation. Ghana and India are now high grade strategic partners with our bilateral relations having been elevated to Comprehensive Partnership last year during the state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

During the visit, Jaishankar will hold bilateral talks with his counterparts and meet the leadership of all three countries to review close bilateral ties of friendship and cooperation. He will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

In Addis Ababa, Jaishankar will chair the Regional Heads of Mission Conference, which is expected to be attended by Indian envoys in the region. The tour begins in Ghana before moving on to Cte d'Ivoire and Ethiopia as India seeks to deepen engagement with African partners.
