Trump's remarks came as Thailand and Cambodia continued their fighting for the third straight day, with the death toll rising to 33 on Saturday.

US President Donald Trump announced that negotiating with Thailand and Cambodia to halt one of the worst fighting between the two countries in more than a decade, and compared it to the brief conflict between India and Pakistan in May.
“Just spoke to the Prime Minister of Cambodia relative to stopping the War with Thailand. I am calling the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand, right now, to likewise request a Ceasefire, and END to the War, which is currently raging. We happen to be, by coincidence, currently dealing on Trade with both Countries, but do not want to make any Deal, with either Country, if they are fighting — And I have told them so!" he said on his Truth Social platform.
“The call with Cambodia has ended, but expect to call back regarding War stoppage and Ceasefire based on what Thailand has to say. I am trying to simplify a complex situation! Many people are being killed in this War, but it very much reminds me of the Conflict between Pakistan and India, which was brought to a successful halt," he added.
Trump’s remarks came after Thailand and Cambodia pounded each other with heavy artillery fire for a third day, killing at least 33 people on both sides and forcing over 1.3 lakh people to flee from border areas.
Both blamed each other for starting a morning clash at a disputed area of the border on Thursday, which quickly escalated from small arms fire to heavy shelling in at least six locations. Notably, the dispute between Thailand and Cambodia flared in May after armed forces of both countries briefly fired at each other in a relatively small, contested border area that each country claims as its own.
Cambodia has accused Thai forces of using cluster munitions, while Thailand accused Cambodia of targeting civilian infrastructure, including a hospital hit by shells and a petrol station struck by at least one rocket. Both sides say they are open to a truce but accused each other of undermining armistice efforts.
