Raccoon Found Drunk As Skunk In Liquor Store Bathroom In US's Virginia

A raccoon broke into a Virginia liquor store, drank whisky, passed out, and was rescued before being released by animal protection officials.

A liquor store in US’s Virginia could never expect to find smashed whisky bottles on the floor and a sleeping raccoon, who was apparently drunk, in the bathroom.

“He fell through one of the ceiling tiles and went on a full-blown rampage, drinking everything," said Samantha Martin, an local animal control officer.

According to Daily Mail, an employee at the Ashland, Virginia, liquor store found the small animal passed out on the bathroom floor on Saturday morning at the end of his drunken escapade.

Martin said the animal was later taken back to the animal shelter. “After a few hours of sleep and zero signs of injury (other than maybe a hangover and poor life choices), he was safely released back to the wild, hopefully having learned that breaking and entering is not the answer," the Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter said.

The Guardian cited a recent study stating that raccoons have adapted to living in urban areas to such an extent that they are now showing physical changes that resemble early signs of domestication.

Previously, a feral pig was found to have stolen three six-packs of beers in the DeGrey River rest area in Western Australia.

In Turkey, an intoxicated brown bear cub was rescued from a forest by people after eating “mad honey", or “deli bal" in Turkish.

According to The Guardian, rhododendrons produce a potent neurotoxin and the honey that bees produce from it can induce a mildly hallucinogenic or euphoric state.
