Woman dies after hitting pothole, run over by truck in Mangaluru
In Mangalore, a woman identified as Madhavi died on September 9th after her two-wheeler allegedly toppled over a pothole. The incident occurred on the Highway near Kulluru, where she fell under the wheels of a moving lorry and died at the spot. The Mangaluru North Traffic Police have registered a case against the lorry driver and the Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for negligence. The NHAI, which is responsible for the highway's maintenance, falls under the central government's Ministry of Road Transport. A speaker noted, "It is a mere negligence of the authorities who did not address the issues of potholes on that particular road." Locals report having previously raised concerns about the highway's poor condition, which is frequently affected by heavy monsoon rains.
