The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration has issued an immediate order for the complete shutdown of all petrol and diesel filling stations within the capital city for the next 48 hours. The directive was announced early Saturday morning.

The official notification did not cite any reason for the drastic measure and no further details were immediately provided by the authorities. One potential explanation for the sudden closure of all petrol pumps in Islamabad could be a concern over fuel supply, sources told CNN-News18.

This blanket closure, effective immediately, means that no fuel will be available for private vehicles, public transport, or commercial operations within Islamabad for the duration of the order.

The sudden unavailability of fuel is expected to impact transportation, businesses relying on generators, and overall mobility within Islamabad. The shutdown of petrol pumps could be ordered to manage existing reserves and prevent panic buying or hoarding, ensuring a more controlled distribution once supplies are restored.

The timing of the shutdown, following reports of explosions at multiple air bases across the country and the subsequent closure of Pakistan’s airspace. However, no such connection has been officially made by the authorities.

Multiple Pakistani air force bases were hit early Saturday morning, including Nur Khan Air Base- a critical installation situated near the nation’s capital, Islamabad. Following this, the Pakistani government swiftly ordered the immediate closure of its entire airspace to all civilian and commercial air traffic. The Pakistani military confirmed the explosions, stating that three of its air force installations were targeted.
