Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requested Russian President Vladimir Putin’s assistance in resolving the conflict with India, his aide Syed Tariq Fatemi said, as quoted by Russian state news agency TASS.

The appeal was conveyed through a letter delivered by Syed Tariq Fatemi, special assistant to Shehbaz Sharif, to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting in Moscow this week.

‘Any Proposal Is Welcome’, Pakistan Tells Russian President

Syed Tariq Fatemi said that Islamabad is open to any diplomatic initiative aimed at easing tensions.

“Neighbours cannot live in a situation where war could start at any minute," he said, emphasizing Pakistan’s readiness to engage with any neutral mediation.

He continued, “We’ve sent officials to neighboring countries, including the US, the EU, and Russia, to explain that any proposal from any country, the UN, or a neutral state regarding India and Pakistan is open for discussion. We are ready to sit down with them at the negotiating table and let them solve the problem."

Islamabad “awaits any initiative from Russia" that could reduce tensions in the region, he said, reiterating, “Pakistan and India must sit down at the negotiating table."

Pahalgam Terror Attack

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated following a deadly terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, in Jammu and Kashmir, which left 25 Indian civilians and one Nepali national dead. India launched retaliatory strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.

The crisis de-escalated after a May 10 agreement between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries to cease hostilities.

Putin- Trump Discuss India- Pakistan Conflict

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump spoke on the phone and discussed several global issues, including the conflict between India and Pakistan, Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov said.

“They also touched upon the Middle East and the armed conflict between India and Pakistan, which was stopped with the personal participation of President Trump," Yury Ushakov said, without revealing the exact details of the conversation.
