A range of international developments were reported on Tuesday, from rescue efforts in Pakistan and diplomatic outreach to Iran to fresh military footage from China and legal action in the United States over tariffs and citizenship cases.
In separate developments, drone strikes by Russia and Ukraine killed at least five people in each country, while India's Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra met Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to discuss trade and investment. China also said it had developed the world's first tunnel boring-and-blasting machine for mountainous terrain.
In Pakistan, rescue teams searched on foot to locate the remains of the last two members of a 10-member expedition group buried in a deadly avalanche last week. Officials said adverse weather conditions prevented helicopters from joining the operation.
Pakistan also stepped up its diplomatic engagement with Iran. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar invited his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi to Islamabad "at the earliest" for discussions amid renewed US-Iran tensions.
In Beijing, China said it had developed the world's first tunnel boring-and-blasting machine, describing it as a new class of equipment designed to deal with the challenges of tunnelling through complex geologies in mountainous terrain.
China also released fresh footage of multiple DF-17 hypersonic missile launch vehicles as the People's Liberation Army marked its 99th anniversary. Chinese defence experts described the system as the first of its kind in the world.
In Washington, Ambassador Kwatra met Governor Kemp and discussed expanding trade and investment partnership with the southeastern US state of Georgia.
Also in the US, a group of 25 Democratic-ruled states moved a court against President Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs on 60 economies accounting for 99.4 per cent of American imports. In a separate case, authorities said an Indian-origin man was among 25 people whose US citizenship is being revoked for alleged crimes ranging from falsifying identity to attempted murder and child sexual abuse.
In the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian drone attacks in the region around Moscow killed five people, local officials said. Authorities in Ukraine said Russian aerial strikes there also caused at least five civilian deaths.
Overall, the day saw parallel developments spanning rescue operations, diplomacy, defence, trade, immigration enforcement and the continuing war between Russia and Ukraine.
