An old video of Tej Pratap Yadav wishing his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, a happy birthday has resurfaced and gone viral on social media. Meanwhile, as Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers celebrate the RJD supremo’s 78th birthday on Wednesday, his elder son Tej Pratap is notably absent from the festivities.

In the video, which dates back two years, Yadav is seen dismissing Tej Pratap’s efforts to engage by repeatedly saying, “Okay, okay."

Tej Pratap is heard telling his father, “Papa is cutting a cake. He is cutting a cake in your name at Guruji’s place in Barsana," to which Yadav appears to respond with indifference. This old video has gained traction online just as Tej Pratap finds himself expelled from the party and family for six years.

RJD workers marked Lalu’s birthday as ‘Social Harmony Day,’ organising food distribution, blood donation camps, and the distribution of reading material for Dalit and underprivileged communities across Bihar.

Despite the celebrations, Tej Pratap’s absence and Lalu’s dismissive reaction in the video became focal points of discussion in Bihar, political experts said. The viral video shows Tej Pratap calling his father from Mathura, which has reportedly sparked conversations about the strained father-son relationship.

Tej Pratap Yadav was disowned by his family last month after a revealing Facebook post about his 12-year relationship with a woman named Anushka.

Tej Pratap shared a cryptic message just before his father’s 78th birthday. In a post on X on the eve of Yadav’s birthday, Tej Pratap posted a large portrait of his father painted on a wall, with him looking at it and touching it with both hands.

“The darker the night, the closer the morning will be," Tej Pratap’s caption read (roughly translated from Hindi). However, he did not explicitly mention any birthday greetings for his father in his post.

On May 25, Lalu Prasad Yadav announced on X that he had expelled his son from the party and disowned him from the family. This announcement followed soon after Tej Pratap’s controversial Facebook post stating his relationship. Yadav described his son’s actions as “irresponsible behaviour".

“His activities, public conduct and irresponsible behaviour are not in accordance with our family values and traditions… he will not have any role in the party and family," he stated.

Later, Tej Pratap claimed on X that his Facebook account was “hacked" and the photos were “being doctored to harass and defame me and my family members."

This issue has stirred the political scene in Bihar, just months before the state Assembly elections.
