Prime Minister Narendra Modi left on Wednesday morning for his visit to Israel. He is expected to land around 4 p.m. Indian standard time. This will be his second visit to the country after his landmark 2017 trip.

The visit comes at the invitation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Jerusalem Post’s special welcome

Israel marked his arrival with a special welcome on the front page of The Jerusalem Post.

Editor-in-Chief Zvika Klein shared the front page, which featured a large photograph of PM Modi waving. The page carried several feature stories on his visit and India-Israel ties. One headline read “Welcome, Modi," while another said “New Delhi’s burgeoning partnership with Jerusalem".

PM to address Knesset

PM Modi will deliver a speech at the Knesset, becoming the first Indian prime minister to address the Israeli Parliament.

The edition also carried an interview with India’s envoy to Israel, JP Singh. He said one of the most important elements of the visit would be PM Modi’s address to the Knesset.

Singh said the aim is to broaden and deepen bilateral ties beyond a limited number of sectors to a more comprehensive framework. This would include financial cooperation, trade and cross-border payments, with potential future work on financial systems and money-transfer infrastructure.

PM Modi’s ‘historic’ visit

Netanyahu described the visit as historic and called PM Modi a “dear friend". He said he had spoken about the upcoming visit at the opening of the Cabinet meeting.

During the visit, the two leaders will review progress in the India–Israel Strategic Partnership. They will discuss cooperation in science and technology, innovation, defence and security, agriculture, water management, trade and economy, and people-to-people exchanges.

PM Modi will also call on Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

He is expected to hold key discussions with Netanyahu on bilateral trade and defence and security cooperation during the visit.
