Elon Musk called for a new political party to represent the "80% in the middle" following an X poll, hinting at the name "The America Party." This comes amid a feud with Trump, who threatened to revoke federal contracts.
Musk, who became the top Republican donor in the last election cycle with $275 million in contributions, has not publicly responded to the allegations.
Tech mogul Elon Musk has revealed the results of his X poll, where he asked users whether it was time to create a new political party in the US.
“The people have spoken,” declared Musk in a now-viral post on X. “A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80% in the middle! And exactly 80% of people agree. This is fate.”
He later shared a post simply reading: “The America Party.”
That was the Tesla and SpaceX CEO’s cheeky reaction after he posted a poll asking whether it was time to form a new political party. The response? A resounding yes — at least from his followers.
Musk’s comments came amid an online blitz targeting President Donald Trump, including a jab that stunned supporters and critics: “Without me, Trump would have lost the election.” He followed it up with, “Such ingratitude.”
Trump retaliated via Truth Social, accusing Musk of betrayal and warning of consequences. “I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!” Trump wrote, threatening to revoke federal contracts and subsidies for Musk’s companies.
“The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump posted, referencing long-standing federal ties to Tesla and SpaceX.
While the two billionaires had once appeared politically aligned — Musk served on advisory councils during Trump’s presidency — the public fallout highlights a deeper rift.
