A protest against the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan turned violent late on Saturday night after a calm daytime march gave way to clashes between demonstrators and police.
Officers used tear gas and water cannons to disperse groups near the Olympic Village, according to CNN.
The clash came as authorities in northern Italy were also examining suspected sabotage on railway lines, though it was not immediately clear if the incidents were connected.
Earlier in the day, thousands of people had walked through the city centre to oppose the upcoming Games.
