Former US President Joe Biden's prostate cancer has spread beyond his bones and is causing significant pain, according to his son Hunter Biden, who spoke about his father's health in an interview with the BBC.
Speaking on BBC's Newsnight, Hunter Biden said the cancer had continued to advance and described its impact as severe.
“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden said. “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”
A spokesperson for Biden declined to comment on the remarks.
Biden, 83, disclosed in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, revealing at the time that the disease had already spread to his bones.
In October, a spokesperson said the former president was undergoing radiation treatment and hormone therapy.
Biden, who became the oldest person elected US president when he won the 2020 election, faced persistent public scrutiny over his health during his 2021–2025 term in office.
Despite his diagnosis, Biden has continued to make public appearances. In June, he attended the dedication of former President Barack Obama's presidential library in Chicago. Biden served as Obama's vice president from 2009 to 2017.
His presidential memoir is scheduled to be released on November 17.
