J&K Congress Attacks BJP Amid Vaishno Devi College Row, Questions Health Ministry's Failure

The Medical Commission (NMC) has revoked the recognition of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) in Jammu.

Amid the ongoing protests over admission to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, the Jammu and Kashmir Congress attacked the BJP for closing the institute and asked for an explanation behind the move. The party further accused the saffron party of covering the failure of the Health Ministry headed by JP Nadda.

Taking to X, Jammu and Kashmir Congress spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said, “BJP must explain what Jammu achieved by closing down a premier Medical Institute named after holy Mata Vaishno Devi ji. Just to cover up the failure of Health Ministry headed by Shri JP Nadda Jammu region made to suffer instead of change of norms."

The Medical Commission (NMC) has revoked the recognition of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) in Jammu, citing serious lapses in minimum standards.

Omar Slams Protests

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday reiterated that the students admitted to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence got in purely on merit, and denounced those who protested against it. He also suggested shutting the institution and moving the students to other government medical colleges.

“Why are the people protesting again today? On what basis are they protesting? Those children worked hard to get their seats. No one did them any favour, neither me nor the university. They passed the exams and got their seats.

“If you do not want to have them there, then adjust them somewhere else," he said.
