A viral social media post by an Indian man living in Ireland has triggered a wave of online debate after he said the country is no longer safe for immigrants and is “going to the dogs.”

The post, shared on X by a man named Daksh, comes in the wake of an alleged stabbing of a newly arrived Indian employee at Amazon by a group of teenagers.

“Can’t believe I’m saying this, but Ireland isn’t safe. Can’t wait to go back home,” Daksh wrote in a thread that has since been widely circulated. “Always thought it was such an amazing country when I got here 3 years ago, made some amazing friends with the locals here, but this place is going to the dogs.”

He added that while Ireland was once on his list of recommended destinations for Indian students and professionals, he now advises against it. “I would’ve told people earlier to come here and live. The quality of life is amazing, the people are usually the kindest,” he said. “Please try your hand at Germany/UK instead. Better yet, the US if you’re seeking work/study abroad.”

The tipping point for Daksh was the recent knife attack on a fellow Indian immigrant. According to his post, the victim had only arrived in Ireland a week earlier to begin working for Amazon. “Some Indian guy who got here last week working for Amazon got stabbed by some teenagers,” Daksh wrote.

But what shocked him more than the violence itself was the online reaction. “What’s shocking is people rather than condemning it are calling him a pedo, justifying the attack, blaming immigrants and telling them to go back.” “The racists are a small minority,” he said, “but now they’re dangerous as well.”

His comments come amid a broader debate in Ireland over rising anti-immigrant sentiment and a string of violent incidents in recent months. Authorities have not officially linked the stabbing to racism, online chatter and reactions have fueled fears among immigrant communities.
