Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply after Iran launched attacked Abu Dhabi, Doha and Riyadh with missiles after airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Iran.
Meanwhile, the latest conflict have once again drawn attention to Iran’s missile capabilities and its growing military confrontation with Western powers.
Iran’s conflict with the United States and its allies have long centred on concerns over its nuclear programme and ballistic missile development.
All You Need To Know About Iran’s Missiles
Iran has ballistic missiles capable of reaching targets across Israel. Among those is the Khorramshahr-4 missile, which has a range of about 2,000 kilometres.
This range allows it to strike any location in Israel. Despite such missiles being intercepted by advanced defence systems, their presence still creates significant fear among civilians, particularly when debris or intercepted missiles fall in populated areas.
Many of the missiles are believed to be stored in underground facilities across the country, a strategy designed to protect them from potential strikes by the United States or Israel.
In 2022, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) estimated that Iran possessed at least 3,000 missiles of different types, including ballistic and cruise missiles. Analysts have since used this figure as a reference point when assessing Iran’s military capabilities.
Iran has already demonstrated its ability to launch large-scale missile attacks. Hundreds of missiles were fired towards Israel during major confrontations in 2024 and again in June 2025. These operations likely reduced its overall stockpile, although the exact numbers remain unknown.
According to publicly available research by defence think tanks, Iran may currently have around 1,500 missiles remaining in its arsenal. Estimates of missile launchers vary widely, with analysts suggesting that the number could range anywhere between 100 and 350.
