Iran-Israel War News LIVE: Netanyahu Speaks To Donald Trump; Iran Threatens To Shut Down Strait Of Hormuz

Iran-Israel War News Today Live Updates: After months of tensions between Iran and the US, loud explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday morning, as Israel announced it launched preemptive strikes, marking a dramatic escalation of hostilities that pushed the Middle East into renewed military conflict.

“The State of Israel launched a pre-emptive attack against Iran to remove threats to the State of Israel,” Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said. Moreover, sirens were sounded in Tel Aviv as Israel warned of the “possibility of missiles”. A state of emergency has been declared in Israel.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the America “has begun major combat operations in Iran.” He declared that regime change in Iran is imminent, urging the Iranian people to rise up against their leadership as joint US-Israeli military operations continue across Iranian territory.

In a video posted on social media, Trump claimed Iran has continued to develop its nuclear programme and plans to develop missiles to reach the US. He also called on members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Iranian army and police forces to lay down their arms, promising that those who surrender would be treated fairly and offered total immunity.

KHAMENEI, IRANIAN PRESIDENT TARGETED

According to the Associated Press, citing onlookers, explosions were heard in Tehran, with the strikes reported near offices linked to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Reports indicated that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian were both targeted in the strikes. However, the results of the strikes were unclear. Other reports suggested that Khamenei was moved to a secure location outside Tehran.

DIMMIING HOPE FOR NEGOTIATIONS

The explosions come as the United States and Tehran were engaged negotiations this month, aimed at resolving the long-running dispute over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Israel had insisted that any agreement must include dismantling Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and limiting missile capabilities. Iran, on the other hand, had asserted it is open to nuclear discussions in exchange for sanctions relief but rejected linking talks to its missile programme. Read More
