In a video surfacing online, a target employee accused her of spending hours in the store and attempting to leave with a cart full of unpaid items.

An Indian woman visiting the United States is currently being investigated for allegedly stealing from a Target store. After spending over seven hours at the Illinois store, her suspicious behavior alerted staff, who then contacted authorities.

Police claim she attempted to steal merchandise worth around $1,300 from the retail store.

In a video surfacing online, a target employee accused her of spending hours in the store and attempting to leave with a cart full of unpaid items.

“We saw this woman roaming around the store for the last seven hours. She was picking up items, checking her phone, moving between aisles, and eventually tried to walk out the west gate without paying," the staffer was heard saying in the clip.

The woman, in her efforts to resolve the matter, offered to pay for the items. “I am really sorry to bother you if it is. I am not from this country. I am not going to stay here," she said. The female police officer interrogating her replied, “Are you allowed to steal things in India? I did not think so."

The police then handcuffed her and took her to the station for paperwork. According to the video, she’s facing felony charges, and although she hasn’t been arrested yet, charges are expected.

According to the YouTube channel, which posted the video online, the incident took place on May 1, 2025. “The police were called to Target after a woman spent hours inside the store stealing items, ultimately attempting to walk out with thousands of dollars in unpaid merchandise," the captain of the video shared on YouTube read.

Responding to the video, one user wrote, “Being an immigrant, I can’t fathom the audacity of being a guest to this country and breaking its laws."

Another commented, “There is no cultural or language barrier. She knows exactly what she’s doing."

A third added, “Embarrassing India on a global stage! She ended up making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Don’t bring shame to the country abroad. Represent with dignity."
