A well-known paranormal investigator has died suddenly, leaving fans in shock and fuelling fears of the unknown. Dan Rivera was reportedly on tour with the infamous haunted Annabelle doll when he lost his life on Sunday.
According to the Evening Sun, his tour organisers confirmed the tragic news. A US Army veteran, Rivera was in the midst of his Devils on the Run Tour, which featured the supposedly haunted doll. The incident occurred in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. While firefighters and medics rushed to the scene, Rivera had already been declared dead by the time they arrived. Despite attempts to perform CPR, the 54-year-old could not be revived.
Although the exact cause of death has yet to be confirmed, the fact that it occurred during a tour with the haunted doll has unsettled many. Rivera, a lead investigator with the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), had previously appeared on shows such as Most Haunted Places.
According to NESPR, Rivera’s three-day tour concluded on Sunday. His final performance took place at the Soldiers Orphanage. The event, which was sold out, was hosted by Ghostly Images of Gettysburg Tours.
Rivera is survived by his wife, Sarah, and their four children.
Following the viral news of his passing, tributes poured in across social media. On TikTok and other platforms, fans and fellow paranormal investigators honoured his legacy. Paranormal researcher Ryan Buell wrote, “I have so many amazing memories with this guy," referring to their tour across the US, where they worked to share the legacy of Ed and Lorraine Warren.
The Warrens famously investigated the Annabelle case, claiming the doll could move its arms, stalk people, and exhibit disturbing behaviour. According to their records, Annabelle was linked to the death of a police officer and a car crash involving a priest. The Warrens founded NESPR in 1952.
Annabelle is widely regarded as one of the most haunted objects in the world. Her story first came to light in the 1970s, after she was handed over to Donna, a nursing student in Connecticut. The eerie events that followed inspired The Conjuring franchise — one of the highest-grossing horror series of all time.
