The committee also referenced claims suggesting the attack could not have occurred without support from Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

India is now a step closer to getting The Resistance Front (TRF) sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The UNSC’s Monitoring Committee has officially mentioned TRF in its latest report, marking a crucial step before the case is taken up by the Sanctions Committee.

According to the report, TRF had published a photo of the Pahalgam terror attack site, an incident that has drawn widespread international concern. The committee also referenced claims suggesting the attack could not have occurred without support from Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

India had briefed the committee earlier this year, in April and May, highlighting TRF’s growing footprint and its operational links to LeT. Notably, one member state has now explicitly stated that TRF is indeed linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The report also issued a broader warning that “terrorist groups may exploit regional tensions," underlining the urgent need for proactive counter-terror measures.

The matter will next be taken up by the UNSC Sanctions Committee, where India hopes to secure formal sanctions against TRF, an affiliate believed to be involved in several cross-border attacks. If successful, this would mark a major diplomatic and security win for New Delhi on the global stage.

Why TRF Has Been Mentioned In The Report

The inclusion of The Resistance Front (TRF) in the UN Security Council’s Monitoring Team (MT) Report marks a major development, particularly because all decisions of the 1267 Sanctions Committee, including MT reports, are adopted by consensus among Security Council members.

This is especially significant in light of Pakistan’s recent attempts to distance itself from TRF. The Pakistani Foreign Minister had previously claimed in the Assembly that Pakistan succeeded in having references to TRF removed from a UNSC press statement condemning the Pahalgam attack. The fact that TRF is now explicitly named in the MT Report reflects the global community’s rejection of Pakistan’s misleading narrative.

Pakistan has long used a strategy of plausible deniability, floating terrorist proxies under seemingly neutral names such as “The Resistance Front" and “People Against Fascist Front" to mask the involvement of outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Jammu and Kashmir. This strategy has now been directly challenged.

This is the first time since 2019 that LeT or Pakistan-based terror groups have been mentioned in such a report, underlining the seriousness of the development.

That TRF has been included despite Pakistan’s pushback underscores Islamabad’s clear complicity in cross-border terrorism and reinforces India’s credibility in global counter-terrorism efforts.
