India, France, UAE review West Asia situation at UNGA meet

India, France and the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday held a trilateral ministerial meeting on the margins of the UN General Assembly, where they discussed the situation in West Asia and reviewed progress in cooperation in areas including space and artificial intelligence.

The meeting was led by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, and UAE Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in New York.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, “The Ministers reviewed the progress in the trilateral cooperation across the agreed areas of mutual interests, including in the sectors of space, artificial intelligence and culture and heritage. The three ministers also discussed the situation in West Asia.”

The statement added, “They emphasised further strengthening and expanding trilateral cooperation in the areas of mutual interest and to further build upon the strong and friendly ties that exist between the three countries.” India, France and the UAE also reaffirmed their commitment to deepen constructive ties through concrete initiatives and agreed to meet at regular intervals to review progress in all synergetic areas, it said.

After the meeting, Jaishankar said in a post on X, “Collaboration in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Space, health sciences, energy and culture was the main topic of discussion.” He added, “Our shared interests and complimentary capabilities offer immense scope for cooperation. Agreed to meet again soon to take the discussion forward.”

The meeting reviewed the three countries’ cooperation across several sectors, took stock of the situation in West Asia, and ended with an agreement to continue discussions and assess progress regularly.
