After Iranian cruise missiles struck two Emirati oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, killing an Indian crew member, Tehran claimed the vessels had ignored repeated warnings, switched off their navigation systems and attempted to sail through what it described as a "mined route" despite instructions from its forces.

The response by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) came after the United Arab Emirates confirmed that the attack in Omani territorial waters had also injured eight others.
