US President Donald Trump on Friday said it would be “easy” for him to solve the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, adding that he has already resolved multiple global wars during his tenure.

Speaking during a working lunch with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, Trump referred to the recent tensions in the region, saying, “Although I do understand that Pakistan attacked, or there is an attack going on with Afghanistan. That's an easy one for me to solve if I have to solve it. In the meantime, I have to run the USA, but I love solving wars. You know why? I like stopping people from being killed, and I've saved millions and millions of lives.”

The remarks came as tensions between the two neighbours simmered and a 48-hour ceasefire expired at 6 pm local time. Reports, however, suggested that the truce was extended, with both sides expected to meet in Doha to seek a solution. However, the Taliban said that Islamabad carried out airstrikes in several districts of Paktika province, which lies along the Durand Line. Following the Pakistani airstrikes, a senior Taliban official said that the truce between the two sides had been “broken,” reported international news agency AFP.

Trump further repeated his age-old claim of solving wars, saying, “I have solved eight wars. Go to Rwanda and the Congo, talk about India and Pakistan. Look at all of the wars that we solved, and every time I solved, when they say if you solve the next one, you're gonna get the Nobel Prize. I didn't get a Nobel Prize. Somebody got it who is a very nice woman. I don't know who she is, but she was very generous. I don't care about all that stuff. I just care about saving lives.”

The US President also cited the May flare-up between India and Pakistan after India’s Operation Sindoor precision strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

Trump, who has often claimed credit for global peace efforts, reiterated that he “deserves” the Nobel Peace Prize. He said, “So, to the best of my knowledge, we've never had a president who solved one war. Not one war. Bush started a war... But I saved tens of millions of lives. The Prime Minister of Pakistan said, I saved millions of lives... look at Pakistan and India as an example. That would have been a bad one.”

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who in her acceptance speech dedicated the award in part to Trump, praising his support for Venezuela’s democratic movement.
