The images, snapped in public spaces such as subways and streets, appeared under the headline “The shorter, the better”.

The newspaper sparked outrage with a photo spread of women wearing short skirts.
A Hungarian daily, Metropol, was fiercely criticised for publishing a photo spread featuring women in short skirts without their consent.
The images, snapped in public spaces such as subways and streets, appeared under the headline “The shorter, the better" in the newspaper’s “Take a photo and send it in!" column.
Following this, women’s rights activists decried the feature as invasive and humiliating. Around 50-60 protesters gathered outside Metropol’s offices, chanting slogans like “Harassment is not journalism" and “My body is not an object" as they demanded a formal apology from the daily.
‘Vile Sexism’
Civil rights group PATENT called the article “vile sexism," highlighting how the piece normalizes harassment by encouraging men to photograph women without their knowledge.
“Men who take photos up women’s skirts don’t even need to hide anymore. They can proudly send their ‘prey’ to a widely distributed, government-aligned newspaper," the group said.
PATENT Association is now offering free legal aid to those affected and urging others who were featured without consent to come forward.
One woman featured in the spread shared her shock at having her image used without permission. She emphasized the right to dress as one chooses without public scrutiny or mockery.
Social Media Users Slam Newspaper
One Reddit user questioned the paper’s intent, saying, “Is this to titillate the paper’s (presumably straight male) readers, or to shame women wearing short skirts? Both."
Another commenter called the piece, “The most disgusting thing I will see today. Or this week."
