After a prolonged period of anticipation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as its new Working President. The decision was taken by the party’s Parliamentary Board, signalling a clear generational and organisational shift within the BJP’s leadership structure.
It is expected that Nabin will be elected as the President of the BJP next year soon after Makar Sakranti (January 14). Earlier, JP Nadda was also made the Working President of the party before being elected the national president.
Nitin Nabin at 45 now ranks among the youngest Working Presidents in the party’s history, a factor the BJP appears keen to highlight as it looks to blend youthful energy with administrative experience. Despite his relatively young age, Nabin brings with him a substantial political résumé that spans governance, organisation-building and mass outreach.
Shri Nitin Nabin Ji has distinguished himself as a hardworking Karyakarta. He is a young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience and has an impressive record as MLA as well as Minister in Bihar for multiple terms. Young, dynamic, and ideologically rooted, Nabin is believed to be deeply committed to the organisation. This appointment reflects the BJP’s focus on capable leadership and signals a generational shift. The BJP had recently made another young leader, Harsh Sanghavi, as Deputy chief minister of Gujarat.
A five-time MLA, Nitin Nabin has served multiple terms as a minister in the Bihar government, giving him hands-on experience in administration and public service. Within the party, he is widely regarded as a leader who understands both policy-making and grassroots realities, having worked closely with people at the constituency level over several election cycles.
His organisational credentials are equally significant. Nabin has spent considerable time working with the BJP’s Yuva Morcha, where he played a role in mobilising young workers and strengthening the party’s youth base. This background is seen as an asset at a time when the BJP is placing renewed emphasis on energising its cadre and expanding its appeal among first-time and young voters.
In addition, Nabin has experience as a state prabhari, giving him exposure to inter-state organisational management and strategic coordination beyond Bihar. This experience is expected to help him navigate the complexities of party organisation at a higher level.
By elevating Nabin to the post of Working President, the BJP appears to be betting on a leader who combines youth with experience, governance with organisation, and grassroots connect with strategic oversight. The appointment underscores the party’s intent to groom a new generation of leaders while maintaining continuity in its political and organisational approach.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him calling him a “hardworking Karyakarta" who has “diligently worked to fulfil people’s aspirations".
His political journey started in 2006 when he became a MLA from Patna West with 65,167 margin. In the following years, he continued to win from Bankipur for three times and in 2021 became minister in the Bihar government handling roadways and in 2024 handling urban affairs. After the recent Bihar win, he was handed roadways ministry once again.
Even within the organisation, he rose from the scratch. From 2008, when he was just national working committee member of BJYM to becoming Chhattisgarh Prabhari in July 2024, Nabin has indeed come a long way.
