US Ambassador Sergio Gor on Sunday met External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in what he called a productive discussion on ways to strengthen U.S.-India partnership for stronger security, expanded trade, and cooperation on critical technologies.

Along with the India-US ties, the topics of the “good interaction" were Indo Pacific and Ukraine conflict, Jaishankar confirmed in a post on X.

Gor wrote on X: “Just wrapped a productive meeting with EAM @DrSJaishankar, @RepMikeRogersAL, @RepAdamSmith, and @JimmyPatronis on ways to strengthen U.S.-India partnership for stronger security, expanded trade, and cooperation on critical technologies."

Jaishankar wrote: “A good interaction with US Congressional Delegation comprising @RepMikeRogersAL, @RepAdamSmith and @JimmyPatronis along with @USAmbIndia. Congressional interactions have always been an important facet of our relationship."

This comes in a series of visits by US diplomats.

Jaishankar on January 13 held a telephonic conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and discussed a range of bilateral issues on trade, critical minerals, nuclear cooperation, defence, and energy. He said that both sides agreed on the importance of sustained engagement to progress on bilateral and international issues. “Just concluded a good conversation with @SecRubio. Discussed trade, critical minerals, nuclear cooperation, defence and energy. Agreed to remain in touch on these and other issues," Jaishankar said in a post on X.

The telephonic conversation was held just a day after US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, assumed charge in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, US Senator Steve Daines pushed for favourable provisions for pulse crops in any future trade deal with India during his visit from 17 to 19 January, stressing the need for stronger Washington-New Delhi trade ties, the US Embassy and Consulates in India said on January 20.

The visit included meetings in New Delhi with Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar, Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, members of parliament, and business leaders from both countries.

In a press release, the US Embassy and Consulates in India said that Senator Daines, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, discussed a range of issues including US-India defence cooperation, secure supply chains, and a stable Indo-Pacific region.

No country is as essential as India for Washington: Gor

No country is as essential as India for Washington and both sides are actively engaged in firming up a trade deal, US ambassador Sergio Gor said in New Delhi on Monday.

“Real friends can disagree, but always resolve their differences in the end," he said in his arrival speech while referring to the friendship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump. “India is the world’s largest nation. So it’s not an easy task to get this across the finish line, but we are determined to get there," he said at a ceremony attended by US embassy employees here.

“And while trade is very important for our relationship, we will continue to work closely together on other very important areas such as security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education, and health," he said. “I have travelled all over the world with President Trump, and I can attest that his friendship with Prime Minister Modi is real," he added.

Gor also announced that India will be a member of the Pax Silica alliance. “I am pleased to announce that India will be invited to join this group of nations as a full member next month," he said.

The Pax Silica alliance is a US-led strategic initiative to build a secure, resilient and innovation driven silicon supply chain.
